The Canadian Music Centre has extended its reach – it has established a presence in Amsterdam at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘tIJ. The opportunity came at the invitation of Muziekgebouw director Jan Wolff, long a supporter of Canadian music. It is an exciting prospect for the promotion of Canadian music. The Netherlands is one of the most important centres for new music anywhere, Amsterdam is at its centre, and the wonderful facility of the Muziekgebouw is rapidly becoming the hub of new music activity there.
As well as providing general information on Canadian composers, works and the new music mileu in Canada, the aim of the effort is to target performing groups in The Netherlands and throughout Europe, many of whom come through Amsterdam to play at the Muziekgebouw, with the promotion of Canadian repertoire.
