T. Patrick Carrabré
 Biography

In July of 2001 T. Patrick Carrabré was appointed Composer-in-Residence with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. In that role he will co-curate the Centara Corporation New Music Festival for the next two seasons. Carrabre's best known compositions include the Sonata No. 1, "The Penitent," for violin and piano, which was nominated for a Juno award, and the Violin Concerto, The Gates of Heaven, written for violinist Gwen Hoebig and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. For the past three seasons, Carrabre has been Associate Composer with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. His Symphony #1, "The War of Angels" was premiered, with great audience success, at the 1997 du Maurier Arts New Music Festival. His Funerailles was the test piece for the 2001 Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition - which was won by composer-pianist Heather Schmidt.

Carrabre began his compositional studies with Dr. Robert Turner at the University of Manitoba. He later went on to work with Jules Leger Prize winning composer Peter Paul Koprowski at the University of Western Ontario and Pulitzer Prize winning composer George Perle at the City University of New York. Carrabre received the Ph.D. from CUNY.
