Ronald Tremain |
DR. RONALD TREMAIN (1923 - 1998) received his musical education in New Zealand (University of Canterbury), then in London (Royal College of Music and University of London), Rome (Conservatorio S. Cecilia) and in Siena (Accademia Chigiana). His career has been pursued in four countries -- New Zealand (University of Auckland), U.S.A. (University of Michigan -- Ann Arbor, and State University of New York, Buffalo), Britain (University of London, Goldsmiths College), and Canada (Brock University).
In common with others of his generation, his style has been influenced by major figures such as Stravinsky, Bartók and Webern, but also draws freely on the richness of idioms and techniques now current. Writing for the voice forms an important part of his output, both in choral and solo vocal mediums.
His work has been published by Price Milburn, Faber Music, Novello, Chappell, Wai-te-ata and University of Otago Press.
