León Zuckert
 Biography

LEÓN ZUCKERT, born in Russia May 4, 1904 [and died on May 29, 1992], studied violin at the Russian Imperial Music Society School in Poltava, under Boris Brodsky. He played in many symphony orchestras in Canada, U.S.A., and Argentina; toured with operas, ballets and dance bands; performed in theatres, movie houses and cafés.

Zuckert was one of the pioneers of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) which was then the Canadian Radio Commission (CRC) and conducted many programmes with his orchestra, doing all his own arranging.

Zuckert has written about his works: "If they don't speak for themselves, then I have nothing to say about them except that, I write the way I feel and don't stick to any particular method or style; each composition has its own character."
