DAVID JAEGER was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1947. He studied composition in Wisconsin with Burt Levy and in Toronto with John Weinzweig and Gustav Ciamaga. In the early seventies, he established a digital sound synthesis facility at the University of Toronto, one of the first such facilities in Canada. In 1971 he co-founded the Canadian Electronic Ensemble and has remained an active member of the group.
Jaeger joined the CBC Radio Music Department in 1973 and is the creator and Executive Producer of 'Two New Hours', the CBC's national new music programme. In 1996 he was awarded the Chalmers composition award, in the presentor's category. In 2003 he won the "Friends of Canadian Music" award, and in 2002 he was elected President of the International Rostrum of Composers.
Jaeger's compositions include pieces for standard soloists and instrumental ensembles, electronic music compositions, and works that combine electronics with conventional instruments or voices. He has created works for many Canada's finest soloists, such as violist Rivka Golani, percussionist Beverley Johnston, pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico, and accordionist Joseph Petric. His music is available on the Centrediscs and Trappist record labels.
