ALEXANDER JACOBCHUK (IAKOVTCHOUK) (b. 1952) received his Composition Degree from the Kiev State Conservatory in Ukraine. He has received a number of prizes for his compositions, including Laureates from three International Music Competitions held in Switzerland, Germany and Belgium in the 1990s. His works were widely published, performed and broadcast in his homeland before he moved to Canada. Among these are the symphonic poem Golden Gate (1982), two symphonies, a viola concerto, the ballet Adventures in the Emerald City (1987), the oratorio Scythian Pectoral (1990), and a series of 24 Preludes and Fugues (1983) for the piano.
