Darren Copeland is an electroacoustic composer and sound designer who has produced work since 1985 for concerts, radio, theatre, dance, and site-specific installation.

After studying theatre sound design at Niagara College, Darren studied electroacoustic composition with Barry Truax and Dr. Jonty Harrison. His concert works have received mentions in numerous international competitions and appeared on several CD compilations. Copeland also has two CDs devoted to his work, Rendu visible and Perdu et retrouvé, both available on the empreintes DIGITALes label.

Some of Darren’s work combines his background in theatre and electroacoustic composition, such as his adaptation of August Strindberg's A Dream Play, his text-sound compositions Lapse in Perception and They’re Trying to Save Themselves, all for CBC Radio, his soundscape documentaries Life Unseen and The Toronto Sound Mosaic, and his DORA nominated soundtrack for Samuel Beckett's That Time. As well, Darren has composed a number of soundtracks for theatre and dance productions, including works by Jessica Runge, Danny Grossman Dance Company, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Factory Theatre and many others. In expanding his practice, he has also created site-specific sound installations and soundscape compositions fro various venues.

Darren Copeland is the Artistic Director of New Adventures in Sound Art. In this capacity he has been a progressive leader in live performance spatialization for electroacoustic art. This focus has influenced numerous works, such as A Dream Play (produced for CBC in 5.1 surround sound), Ich will kein inmich sein (ZKM, 2005) and Let Me Out (Kunstradio, 2006). He is currently the President of the Canadian Association for Sound Ecology.
