We hope to create a lasting enthusiasm for new sounds in a vast untapped market, as well as creating new artwork itself. The Red Strap Market is an ultra-cool life-affirming transformation of an abandoned inner-city department store into a thriving artist market. It’s a vast acoustical space populated with individual stalls run by independent artists in all media. Vendors and customers alike are creative, energetic types, who don’t go to enough concerts. To truly fill this sound-space, and to make the works of CMC composers as compelling and immediate as possible, Saint Crispin’s Chamber Ensemble will draw on electroacoustic resources to augment and transform the sound of a clarinet and a flute. CMC works, ancient and world music, and original and improvised works will be played over lush electronic backgrounds. Dancer Kathy Metzger-Corriveau will add another layer of meaning and visual impact.
