The Farthest Reach is my debut CD. It is, I think, solidly grounded in the jazz tradition (I cut my teeth with California hard-bop trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos through the 1990s) yet is equally inspired by the Anglican choral tradition (I was a chorister in the St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir in San Diego, California for 10 years), the progressive rock of my youth (such as Yes, Genesis) and the more modern, exploratory eclecticism of Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. As a composer and an improviser, I value melody and beautiful, functional harmony. I admire piano players who play with sensitivity and restraint as well as excitement and power. I prefer Keith Jarrett to Chick Corea, though they are both great. I expect that The Farthest Reach will appeal to a wide-range of music fans and please jazz aficionados as well.” – Paul Keeling

“It is always refreshing to listen to a musician who has a clearly defined sense of history and works this in to his own sense of where he is at a precise time. The music on this album is a remarkable reflection of a pianist who has large measures of talent and has worked this into his fine awareness of time and space.”
