Kent just published a book, Timpani Playing in the 21st Century.

"David Kent feels confident that his next book will be the better seller. Its working title? How to Survive Marriage and Divorce in the 21st Century.

His first book, just published by Keyboard Percussion Publications, draws on his 30 years experience as principal timpanist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Its title? Timpani Playing in the 21st Century.

The self-styled psychologists among us may be tempted to find a connection between the two volumes. After all, how long can a woman expect to stay married to a man who goes through life whacking kettledrums?

It needn’t have turned out this way if the thrice-married native Torontonian had proven more adept at playing the clarinet. But at around the age of 10 he picked up the sticks from his stepbrother’s drum kit and it was love at first whack, so to speak..."
