La jeunesse de Ross Perrin est marquée par la dyslexie et une grande violence familiale. La musique le sauve de la folie : Perrin compose dès ses 13 ans et s'attache au pianiste Eddy Martel.

En 1977, une tumeur met fin à ses études de piano. Perrin s'oriente alors vers la composition (Université de Montréal) malgré ses handicaps cognitifs, ses emplois et la garde de son jeune fils. En 1982-83, il reçoit l'enseignement particulier de Vivier, son ami et voisin.

Originaire du Québec, Jacqueline Laurin est initiée à la musique dès son jeune âge par le piano d’abord, puis en participant à de nombreuses activités de chœurs. Après des études de chant, auprès de la mezzo-soprano Fernande Chiocchio, elle se rend en France pour y suivre un stage de deux ans au Centre National d'Insertion Professionnelle d'Art Lyrique de Marseille.

Amen presented by the Yarilo Contemporary Music Society

Description:This is the second part of the project Amen presented by the Yarilo Contemporary Music Society. Amen Part II - Today, presented Friday, November 20, 2015 in Vancouver’s Orpheum Annex Theatre, was a memorial concert dedicated to three Canadian composers who died before their time. On the program were three commissions honoring Claude Vivier, Nikolai Korndorf and Roussi Tarmakov, among other works. The concert was organized around a reading of the 11th-century Armenian mystic, St. Gregory of Narek’s Book of Lamentations. Our performers were pianists Jane Hayes and Anna Levy, the Borealis String Quartet, narrator David Skulski, with visuals provided by 11thirty Media.

Le prix Serge-Garant à Ana Sokolovic

Montréal, mercredi 25 novembre 2015: La Fondation Émile-Nelligan est heureuse d’annoncer que la compositrice Ana Sokolović a été choisie lauréate du prix Serge-Garant 2015. Une bourse de 25 000 $ lui a été remise lors d’une cérémonie qui s’est déroulée à la Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur, le mardi 24 novembre, à 17 h 30.

Le jury se composait cette année de Réjean Beaucage, travailleur culturel, du musicologue Jonathan Goldman, de la mezzo-soprano Marie-Annick Béliveau, de la pianiste Brigitte Poulin et du compositeur et lauréat du prix Serge-Garant 2012, André Hamel.
