After Truth - Rodney Sharman

Type:Video
Description:After Truth (1994) for Baroque flute and percussion (can be performed on modern flute. percussion: vibraphone, glockenspiel, suspended maraca, rainstick, chimes)

Alison Melville, Baroque flute, Richard Sack, percussion (studio recording, 2017)

After Truth consists of two pairs of two and three-part inventions for Baroque flute, vibraphone and glockenspiel, separated by coloured silences. It was my desire through invertible counterpoint and canons of all sorts to address the pursuit of truth in art in a world where truth, at best, is a dialectic, rather than an absolute. The title is taken from the philosophical writings of Mervyn Sprung. After Truth was commissioned by Strange Companions through the Canada Council. It is dedicated to composer John Rea on his fiftieth birthday.

Rodney Sharman - Opera Transcriptions: La Rondine, Turandot, Madama Butterfly

Type:Video
Description:Performed by Louise Bessette. Posted on youtube with the permission of the publisher, les productions d'Oz (Doberman-Yppan) and the performer, Louise Bessette.

Opera Transcriptions: La Rondine, Turandot, Madama Butterfly In 1989, I began a series of opera transcriptions for piano in response to Michael Finnissy's Verdi Transcriptions, a work which I greatly admire. The three Puccini transcriptions were written at the request of pianists Yvar Mikhashoff and Anthony de Mare, who selected the arias which serve as the basis of these short pieces: "La Canzone di Doretta", from La Rondine, "Nessun dorma", from Turandot, and "Tu, tu, piccolo iddio" from Madama Butterfly. Opera Transcriptions: La Rondine was first performed by Anthony de Mare at New Music Concerts in Toronto in 1992, Turandot was given its first performance in Ghent, Belgium by Anthony de Mare, and Madama Butterfly was first performed by Yvar Mikhashoff at the tenth Almeida Festival in London, UK.

En souvenir de Gilles Tremblay 1932 - 2017

août 14, 2017
National

National
