Calgary’s award-winning Spiritus Chamber Choir shines light on music linked to a variety of lights.

In a concert supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, Spiritus Chamber Choir presents an evening of colourful, shimmering harmonies, with works by Schafer, Esenvalds, Elgar, Ligeti and Rutter. Spiritus will also premiere not one, but TWO two newly commissioned works - "Even In Our Sleep” by Canadian composer David MacIntyre and "Song of the Phosphor Lights” by Calgary composer Zachary Wadsworth.

Luminous Voices, Calgary’s professional choir, launches its 2014/15 season with “The Far West” - a world premiere by Calgary composer Zachary Wadsworth. Praised for its “evocative mixture of old and new,” his music has been heard in venues around the world, from the Kennedy Center in Washington to Western Abbey to Carnegie Hall in New York. Wadsworth’s new work will feature tenor soloist, American-Canadian Lawrence Wiliford, with string orchestra and choir.

Calgary’s premiere chamber orchestra, the Kensington Sinfonia, will conclude their 2013/14 season with “Musica Notturna” on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church (3527 Boulton Road NW, Calgary).

The Sinfonia will feature saxophonist Jeremy Brown who will be introducing Calgarian composer Allan Gordon Bell’s new piece, "Burning Ice & Biting Flame", to the world!

Beyond the Walls – VICO at Sound of Dragon Music Festival

The Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra performs in the first Sound of Dragon Music Festival celebrating Chinese music in all its diverse forms. Beyond the Walls will featuring traditional Chinese and new music by BC composers Jin Zhan, Lan Tung, Farshid Samandari and Mark Armanini. This virtuoso ensemble plays instruments from many cultures, with Taiwanese guest artists and conductor Chih-Sheng Chen.

Soundstreams spans the globe in this musical event uniting the musical traditions of East and West. Highlights include R. Murray Schafer’s Theseus and world premieres of new Chinese and Canadian compositions. After its Toronto performance, this concert will embark on a tour to China, including a stop at the prestigious Beijing Modern Music Festival. Don’t miss this exciting grand finale to our 30th anniversary season!

In this concert, we explore a broad range of music composed for multiple pianos. The evening will feature Brazil’s charismatic and sizzling Duo Gisbranco. To them we add four sensational Canadian pianists - Jamie Parker, Gregory Oh, Christina Petrowska-Quilico, and Simon Docking - to create an unforgettable sound!

Repertoire includes Brazilian gems, the minimalist rhythms of Steve Reich’s classic Six Pianos, the funk of Erkki Sven-Tuur’s Transmission, and a world premiere by Glenn Buhr.
