"North of 49" is a live event presented by Timepoint Ensemble with the aim of bringing New Canadian music to the forefront of the Calgary art scene. Odawa composer Barbara Croall will be heavily featured, as well as works by Robert Rosena dn Hildegard Westercamp. There will be no charge at the door for "North of 49" because it is being presented for FREE as a part of Timepoint Ensemble's regular 2016/17 season thanks to the generosity of these wonderful organizations:

Description:

A fascinating new work for cello and orchestra by Canadian Cassandra Miller will be heard. The world premiere was recently given by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with the piece being commissioned by cellist Charles Curtis, who himself has worked closely with iconic artists La Monte Young, Elaine Radigue Alvin Lucier, and others. The concert will begin with Icelandic-Canadian composer Fjóla Evans’ short, textural work and will end with Turkish composer Fazil Say’s major work for extra large orchestra Symphony No. 2 Mesopotamia.
