Glenn Hodgins is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the organization. He works with the National Board and CMC Regional Directors to implement the strategic goals and objectives of the Centre. From 2012 – 2013 he served as the Vice-Chair of the Ontario Regional Council.

Carmen Braden launches series of Yellowknife concerts

Yellowknife composer and performer Carmen Braden will host a new series of concerts in Yellowknife, saying her city is “increasingly on the map” for musicians.

"Braden’s company, Black Ice Sound, confirmed its opening event in a news release on Monday.

Edmonton Symphony Orchestra violinist Robert Uchida and Halifax pianist Peter Allen will perform Johannes Brahms’ Violin Sonatas on May 3 at Museum Cafe, from 7pm. Entry is by donation.

Why Quebec composer Claude Vivier was ahead of his time

"Many things can be said about the music of Claude Vivier, but one thing is certain: No one who hears it is quite the same afterward. Vivier, who would have turned 70 on April 14th, is a unique figure in music. Orphaned as a baby, he attended Catholic boarding school and later the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal, before studying composition with Karlheinz Stockhausen in Cologne.

Davenport music festival to honour legendary Canadian composer

Scholarship award to be named for choral composer Ruth Watson Henderson

"The Davenport Festival of Music is recognizing legendary Canadian choral composer and pianist Ruth Watson Henderson with a scholarship named in her honour.

The first Ruth Watson Henderson Award for Most Outstanding Piano Performance of Canadian Music will be handed out during the festival, which runs until May 5 in Swansea as well as Etobicoke, in recognition of Watson Henderson’s contributions to choral music both in Canada and across the world..."

Biography:

Mark Mitchell (b.1960) grew up in Ottawa and Prince Edward Island, making his first attempts in composition at age nine. He graduated from the University of Ottawa and has a doctorate in composition from UBC in Vancouver. He has worked as a teacher, choral conductor, and in the computer game industry. His compositions include choral works, piano solos, several song cycles, three musicals, a harp concerto, and a book of 55 original hymns with noted author Orson Scott Card. He and his wife currently reside in Magrath, Alberta, his five daughters and son having all left the nest.
