“’Feria’ is one of those words whose original meaning becomes reversed over time. Originally, the word meant ‘a festival day.’ However, since the Middle Ages, the Roman church has given ‘feria’ the opposite meaning: a day on which there is no church festival.
“It’s just an ordinary day. It’s not a day of celebration... it doesn’t even lead up to anything special.
“Of course, the interesting thing is that there aren’t many of them. Their very ordinariness makes them special. (...) ‘Feria’ days are judged on their own merits (“Do you remember that lovely day when...’).”
