Prairie Sounds Spring 2014

Prairie Sounds Spring 2014

June 12, 2014

Hi all,

Summer is just around the corner so it is time to get our expanded Spring edition of Prairie Sounds into your hands ― thank you to everyone who contributed! There are some great articles, including a behind the scenes look at the genesis of Stephen Chatman’s new work for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, a tribute by John Estacio to one of the newest Order of Canada members (Bob McPhee), and lots of news from many of our Prairie composers. The PDF file can be viewed online here.

I am off on holiday to Nicaragua for most of June so I look forward to catching up with everyone when I return. In the meantime, keep up with Canadian music happenings on the “News” section of our website. Also, our summer student Simon has been blogging! You can check out what he is writing about on our website at: musiccentre.ca/blog/22332. Blogging is open to ALL members of our community so we would love to have all of you blogging about what you’re passionate about too!

Finally, don’t forget to visit our website at musiccentre.ca and upload next season’s Canadian music events to our event calendar.

P.S. Your donations are incredibly important to allow us to continue to promote Canadian music in our region, nationally and internationally. Without the support of individuals like you we would not be able to keep our library of over 20,000 scores free for loan across the country, produce events such as the WCMA and JUNO classical showcases and meet the composer events, or produce newsletters to keep you informed of what is happening in the Canadian music community.
