Empress of Russia, 1978
Commissioned by: Arraymusic, on their 20th anniversary

Empress of Russia is an arrangement of a solo piano piece called Untitled 2, itself derived from Untitled (she was beautiful), a chamber work I wrote for Arraymusic in 1978. The title is also the name of a passenger ship, one of Canadian Pacific’s ‘White Empresses’, which served on that line’s Vancouver-Yokohama-Shanghai run until 1939.”
