Toronto city hall, House of Commons pushing gender-neutral ‘O Canada’

"If it’s not a man’s world, then we can’t have a man’s anthem — that’s the message that politicians at Toronto city hall and the House of Commons are promoting with a municipal motion and new federal bill designed to create a more gender-neutral “O Canada.”

The motion, put forward in August by former interim city councillor Ceta Ramkhalawansingh and seconded by councillor-turned-deputy mayor Pam McConnell, asks council to adopt a resolution to request that the federal government change the words of our national anthem to make it more gender-inclusive. (And not for the first time: A similar vote was taken by Toronto council in 1990.)..."
