Programme Note:
con tu sueño en mi sueño, with your dream in my dream, is a phrase taken from sonnet eighty-one of Pablo Neruda’s cien sonetos deamor, one hundred love sonnets. The piece is sentimental, romantic; it is gentle and sweetly sad. It has two chords and an unchanging, rocking rhythm, a sort of melancholic lullaby. A northern response to Neruda’s southern sensuality, I have attempted to write a restrained, literally muted, faintly emotional piece of music. A knowing blush. A remembrance of pleasures past. Shadow of a purity.

Premiere Information:
19 July 2005, Arsenal, Metz, France
