Hiroki Tsurumoto

Hiroki Tsurumoto (1976) is a Japanese/Canadian composer, a lover of creating things in general, and a co-founder of ∆TENT, a performance group of experimental chamber music with traditional repertoires in Toronto, Canada. Hiroki’s music, Code Thumbnails series, is inspired by graphic design elements, in particular, typographic systems and html colour codes. As a marathon runner, his new series, Cursor, features various aspects of ‘running’. His music has been performed in the U.S., Japan, Czech Republic, Norway, UK, Brazil, Australia, and Canada including nu:nord and ISCM World Music Days. Artists he has collaborated with include Aventa (Victoria), Canticum Ostrava (Czech Republic), Continuum Contemporary Music (Toronto), Thin Edge New Music Collective (Toronto), Insert TITLE marimba duo (Toronto), Ives Ensemble (Amsterdam), junctQín keyboard collective (Toronto), violinist Mira Benjamin (London, UK), Tre Voci Cello Ensemble (London, UK), pianist Stephanie Chua (Toronto), saxophonist Chelsea Shanoff (Toronto), Tiresias (Vancouver), Tempest Flute Ensemble (Vancouver), among others. Hiroki also studied Economics and Graphic Design in Tokyo and New York City, and currently resides in the east coast of the US with two basenjis.
