Mozart's "Requiem in D Minor" was his final and most prolific work of music. A brilliant quartet of soloists - Lauren Woods (soprano), Sara Staples (mezzo-soprano), Benjamin Butterfield (tenor), and Paul Grindlay (baritone) – will perform this mighty and much-loved classic from 1791, showcasing its powerful imagery and sheer beauty.

Luminous Voices will also be performing the beautiful unaccompanied set of Canadian music that reflects on the “requiem” text, including a short work by Canadian composers, Jean Coulthard’s "Threnody" as well as James Rolfe's "Come lovely and soothing death", and premiering Canadian composer Jeffrey Ryan’s "...sempiternam". This short meditative work for double a cappella choir is adapted from the Agnus Dei movement from Ryan’s "Afghanistan: Requiem for a Generation", which was commissioned by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and One Yellow Rabbit in 2012.

The programme also includes Sir John Tavener’s "Svyati" for choir and solo cello and J. S. Bach’s eight-part "Komm, Jesu, komm".
