Combining energetic passion with precision, Charm of Finches is excited to present their first official concert, "Charmed, I'm sure".

Charm of Finches comprised of five of the most sought after flautists in Toronto is striving to set a new standard in flute quintet performance. As colleagues and friends, the members of Charm of Finches (Laura Chambers, Terry Lim, Amelia Lyon, Kaili Maimets and Sarah Yunji Moon) have been swooping in and out of each others' lives for more than a decade. Their shared connections include hometowns, high schools, universities, training orchestras, and now Canada's professional arts landscape. They are active soloists and chamber musicians in their own right; their collective performance history extensively covers Canada and the US, as well as Asia and South America, and performance venues stretching from the forests of Haliburton, Ontario to Carnegie Hall.

The group’s debut recital at the 2015 Canadian Flute Convention received rave reviews and overwhelmingly positive support from the international flute community. Inspired by this success and the joy of collaborating with each other they decided to make the band official. A number of productive rehearsals, delicious snack breaks and a bottle of wine or two later, the name “Charm of Finches” was decided and Canada’s first professional flute quintet was born.

On February 4th, allow yourself to be swept up in their infectious love of discovery as they present arrangements of all time favourite orchestral works, Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé (arranged by Rie Schmidt) and Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (arranged by Gudrun Hinze). In addition the audience will be treated to the premiere performances of Hetu’s Sérénade (arranged by Sean King). The program will be rounded out with a couple of surprises as one can never be sure which direction these birds are going to fly.

PWYC (Pay-What-You-Can): No one is turned away from being able to experience some of the best chamber music playing and finest musicians Toronto has to offer. We recognize the financial demands on families this time of year and we simply ask people to contribute what they can afford.
