Instrumentation:

Instrumentation Set Number 1:
  • 1 x Harpsichord
Programme Note:
The "Toccata céleste" finds itself within a music theatre work entitle, Sacrée Landowska, commissioned of me by the Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal (Véronique Lacroix, artistic director) and intended for harpsichordist, Catherine Perrin. By way of an elaborate metaphor - the idea that the very well-known harpsichordist Wanda Landowska (1879-1959) returns from the otherworld in order to perform one more time the work she had commissioned, the Concerto for harpsichord and five instruments, from Spanish composer Manuel DeFalla (1876-1946) - the stage becomes a place outside of time of that Madame Landowska may speak of her experience, acquaintances, artistic will and skills, as well as he loves. The "Toccata" provides the occasion for a personal recollection of Don Manuel.
