Profile Type: Industry Professional

I am an award winning poet, a librettist, who has an undergraduate degree in voice from UBC (and a PhD in English literature from a top 10 British university). As a librettist I have collaborated on a major work with the composer Jeff Ryan, Afghanistan: Requiem for a Generation, a one hour commission by the Calgary Philharmonic which premiered in 2012. It was recently produced by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Bramwell Tovey and is scheduled to be performed in Toronto in November 2017. I am currently collaborating on another project with a Canadian composer (details tba!).

While much of my work has considered war, reflecting my tenure as an official war artist (Afghanistan), I have a wide body of work that includes the pastoral, erotic, love, historic (particularly reflecting my Métis heritage), and much more. I have written for film and my work has been heard, published, and studied internationally. To hear my work one can go to my website or request samples.

I like to work in multiple languages and I enjoy collaboration very much. I believe that my degree in voice gives my work a sensitivity towards vowels etc. as well as the dramatic potential of the sung vocal line.
