A decadent musical trifle with all the ingredients such as high arts jazz, chamber music adaptations of mid-century exotica and pop art, and a few original compositions – a mix of music like you’ve never heard before. Layer in some Bach, Gershwin, Shostakovich and John Adams adaptations and you’ve got yourself Mr. Ho’s Orchestrotica.

Five musicians, including Artistic Director Brian O’Neill, create this eclectic and exotic ensemble. A true Smörgåsbord of sound including bass flute, acoustic bass, vibes and frame drums, tanbur, oud, and resonator guitar. Described by the Washington Post as “Anything but straightforward” Mr. Ho’s Orchestrotica features a variety of O’Neill’s original compositions with a smattering of adaptations such as the “Arab Dance” from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, traditional Gregorian Chant “Shen Khar Venakhi” and an O’Neill/J.S. Bach collaboration “Would You Like Bongos With That Fugue?”

We certainly like bongos and we think you’d like them too! Join us on October 19th for a New Music Edmonton concert that promises to keep you entertained and wanting more.
