Programme Note:
‘Prayer for England’ (for voice and piano) written by Colleen Muriel and dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II was first performed on May 15, 2012 at Barking Baptist Church in a concert to celebrate Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee. A video of this concert is kept in the Queen’s Library.Participants in this concert included the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham’s music service, including the Symphonic Wind Band and the Young Singers. This is a beautiful, tonal, flowing hymn-like piece of music. It is fairly straightforward to sing with an approachable, simple melody line. The piano part is clearly harmonic and chordally based.
