Esprit Orchestra celebrates 35 years of championing Canadian composers

"Prepare to get out your cellphones as part of this season’s Esprit Orchestra program: you’ll be participating in a performance about the birth and maturity of the telephone.

The February concert will begin with a Eugene Astapov composition that includes an 1885 recording of Canadian telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell saying, “Hear my voice,” then will ramp up to the present day with Tan Dun’s “Secret and Winds and Birds” with the audience creating a “forest of digital birds” on cellphones..."
