Kensington Sinfonia presents Beauty of the Word - a concert featuring works inspired by the world of visual art.

In this concert, Kensington Sinfonia asks the audience to explore the instrumental music’s connection to words and text. Can we find connections in the life of a composer, or in a point of inspiration, or in the thread of storytelling?
The concert features works by Hildegard von Bingen - a legendary composer, poet, and saint - to Canadian composer and music educator Jean Coulthard’s “Essays for Octet”, and English composer Frank Bridge’s “Novelletten”. The concert also features Czech composer Leoš Janáček’s String Quartet No. 1 – a piece inspired by Tolstoy’s short story “The Kreutzer Sonata”.
Now celebrating the 31st season, Calgary’s original string ensemble Kensington Sinfonia offers a repertoire ranging from the Renaissance and Baroque eras through Classical, Romantic, Modern, and Contemporary in a relaxed, intimate environment. The group consists of professional orchestra members, performing under the Artistic Director Laura Reid.
Beauty of the Word will take place at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at St. Stephen's Anglican Church (1121 – 14 Avenue SW, Calgary).

Tickets are $25 (general) / $20 (students/seniors) / FREE (children 12 & under) and are available online through or at the door. For more information, please visit or call (403) 451-8287.
