The first weekend of May in South River provides an exciting opportunity in South River for musicians, audio enthusiasts, sound recordists, artists and birders to learn about the art of soundscape recording during the optimum time for soundscape listening.

Included in the weekend-long workshop is a soundscape concert by guest artist David Eagle, a “dawn chorus” multi-channel recording session, a lecture by David Eagle on his use of interactive technology with soundscape recordings, as well as techniques for recording and editing environmental field recordings with NAISA Artistic Director Darren Copeland.

All levels of experience are welcome. Limited supply of recording equipment for those who require it. Those with recording equipment are welcome to bring their own.

David Eagle composes chamber, orchestral and electroacoustic music, and explores interactive computer applications in composition, improvisation, multimedia and sound spatialization. Active as a composer and interpreter of interactive works, he has developed various approaches focusing on sonic transformation through gesture. He is an associate composer of the Canadian Music Centre.

Darren Copeland is a soundscape composer and Artistic Director of New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) in South River. He is an associate composer of the Canadian Music Centre.
