Programme Note:
Exoptare - Latin - to yearn for, to desire

The main motive for this work, introduced by the violins, is an ascending series of fifths- each separated by a semitone. This motive always reaches upwards, as if trying to reach another plane or state. Sometimes it reaches this higher plane, but never rests long enough before having to move onward.
For me, this is what we all do in life. We struggle to achieve our dreams, to fulfill our ideals, to find our higher purpose, and even as we achieve them, we find there is more before us. More to reach for, more to yearn for. And so it goes, onward and hopefully upward.
