Programme Note:
Nadir is a dance of death, composed after the passing of two influential figures in the composer’s life and a period of conflict between Iran and Iraq. The piece was later rearranged and expanded as the third movement of String Quartet No.2, The Gathering.

Premiere Information:
Commissioned by the Canadian Electronic Ensemble for Peter Kannan and Rivka Golani with financial assistance from the Ontario Arts Council. It was premiered in 1988 by Peter Hannan and Douglas Perry and it has been released on three separate CDs on the CBC, Sony and Naxos labels.
