Programme Note:
Morphes is a composition that belongs to a transitional period in the composer's output. It is rooted in the composer's older atonal/arrhythmic style but also introduces glimpses of tonal idioms and rhythmic symmetry. It displays a rather playful interaction and independence between the two instruments with sudden mood changes, virtuosic passages, and contrapuntal vigor.

Composed in 1992, Morphes remained unperformed for fifteen years and received its premiere performance in Edmonton on October 28, 2007 by Elena Denisova and Alexei Kornienko who may have just saved it from obscurity.

Premiere Information:
28/10/2007 Convocation Hall, University of Alberta Edmonton Elena Denisova, violin and Alexei Kornienko, piano
