  • 1 x Piano
Programme Note:
Danses Rituelles is an instrumental
showcase dedicated to Colin’s wife, pianist
Claudia Cashin-Mack, in honour of their
wedding in 1978. It was inspired by the
stunning natural beauty of Lac Castor,
Quebec where the marriage ceremony
was held. The piece was begun while
studying at the University of Ottawa
under the direction of Steven Gellman.
The first movement is characterized by
colourful clusters, rhythmic vitality and
joyful “bell chords”. The middle
movement features a beautiful, pensive
motif that eventually attains a kind of
ecstatic lyricism. The final movement
provides a rousing and fiendishly difficult
conclusion.
