Srul Irving Glick

Canticle of Peace, 1987

Commissioned by: Harold Redekopp, CBC Radio

“… permeated with Glick’s sensitive and ethereal interpretations…” Cynthia Gasner, The Canadian Jewish News, June 13, 1991

“Both the texts and the music of Canticle of Peace, a work for mixed choir a cappella, were written by Glick. Using the word ‘canticle’ in its meaning as a ‘song of peace’, Glick wrote the five poems (‘After the Storm’, ‘We Must Strive for Peace’, ‘Prayer’, ‘I Dream Every Day’, and ‘May We Not in Peace Preserve These Precious Things’) and created music of a devout and peaceful expression for their setting. The songs are dedicated to his brother Earl.”

Premiere Information:
Apr. 29, 1988, Ryerson United Church, Vancouver; Vancouver Chamber Choir, Joh Washburn, dir.
