Programme Note:
This work is a study in musical stillness. This stillness is something that I seem to often make use of, but that I have never properly explored in isolation. In pursuing this idea further, I found myself seeking musical spaces in which both stasis and activity were co-existant, perhaps even co-dependent. While just about everything can be said to fit in between these two extremes, finding their possible points of intersection became my elusive goal in writing this piece: to find a music which is simultaneously static and dynamic, yet which avoids the all-encompassing space in between.
