Jim McGrath

Jim McGrath is a Toronto-based composer who divides his time between writing music for film and television and composing for the concert stage. His compositions have been performed by a wide range of ensembles including Ottawa’s Thirteen Strings, The Montreal Chamber Orchestra, The Kitchener Waterloo Symphony, The Hamilton Philharmonic, True North Brass, The Art of Time Ensemble, The Red Deer Symphony Orchestra and The Mississauga Symphony.

The CD Cinématique, a collection of his orchestral concert music recorded by the Montreal Chamber Orchestra, has received significant airplay on CBC radio and has sold around the world in such countries as Holland, Italy and Japan.

A graduate of the Jazz Studies program at Humber College in Toronto, he also studied composition with Dr. Samuel Dolin at the Royal Conservatory of Music and conducting with Dr. Roman Toi and Victor Feldbrill.

Film and television credits include ThinkFilm’s The Last Mogul: The Life and Times of Lew Wasserman, Alliance Atlantis’ film Foolproof, starring Ryan Reynolds, Columbia Tristar thriller Resurrection, and Odeon’s Treed Murray, which was nominated for five Genie Awards, including Best Picture and Outstanding Achievement in Music. The score for Treed Murray went on to win Gold in the Film Festival in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Jim is currently scoring the hit CBC comedy/drama Republic of Doyle, as well as the long running, critically acclaimed series Degrassi for which he received the 2006 Gemini Award for Best Original Score for a Dramatic Series.
