John Korsrud

John Korsrud is a composer, trumpet player, and bandleader. In 1990, after graduating from the University of British Columbia, he formed the 17-piece new music/jazz ensemble The Hard Rubber Orchestra. This ensemble has performed over forty times including tours of Europe and across Canada. Their debut CD, Cruel Yet Fair (Victo 059), was nominated for a Juno Award for Best Contemporary Jazz recording. As well as being the Hard Rubber Orchestra’s principal composer, John has been commissioned by the Vancouver Symphony, The Albany Symphony’s New Music Festival, the CBC Radio Orchestra, Squeezeplay, Amsterdam’s Combustion chamber Ensemble, and several Vancouver choreographers. John studied composition with Louis Andriessen in Amsterdam from 1995-97 and has been a frequent artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts, and currently teaches at the Vancouver Community College.
