David Mott has a multifaceted career as a saxophonist, composer and improvisor in both New Jazz and New Classical music. He was educated at Hope College, Berklee College of Music and the Yale University School of Music, where he received his advanced degrees and taught graduate composition. He has been professor of music at York University, Toronto since 1978.

David Mott's work is greatly influenced by non-western musics. He is actively involved in shamanic and healing aspects of music, and since 1983 has been chief instructor at Cold Mountain School of Martial Arts, where he teaches Uechi-ryu Karate Do and Chi Kung.

David Mott is a member of the Toronto-based duet Erosonic with accordionist Joseph Petric, the saxophone quartet 40 Fingers, and the contemporary jazz ensemble Chelsea Bridge. The recipient of numerous awards, he was named Jazz Baritone saxophone Player of the Year by the Jazz Report in 1995. Other recent honours include a Juno nomination for his 1994 CD The Standard Line with pianist David Lopato, and a Juno Award in 1996 as conductor of the Neufeld-Occhipinti Jazz Orchestra's premier release, NOJO.
