CMC Prairie Region Emerging Composer Competition

The CMC Prairie Region invites emerging composers to enter this annual competition to be produced in February 2013 with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

Composers age thirty-five and younger as of September 30, 2012 who are current residents of, were born in, or who have completed a substantial portion of their musical education in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba may enter. Eligibility should be addressed in a cover letter. Entrants are eligible to win the prize once only.

Entries should be scored for orchestra. The resources available are:
2222/4331 timp, perc, harp, strings.
Please note: There will only be one 20-30 minute rehearsal plus the dress rehearsal before the performance of the winning work.

The submitted piece can be a MAXIMUM of 10 minutes.

A cheque for $1,000 and a performance of the winning work at a concert during the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s New Music Festival (February, 2013). A national CBC broadcast may result. The winner will also receive a residency at The Banff Centre. The winner will be chosen by an independent jury.

Submissions must be postmarked no later than October 31, 2012. The winner will be notified by December 15, 2012.

Applicants must send two copies of the score. Scores should not be identified by name in order to preserve anonymity. The name of the score should be included in the cover letter, as well as contact information of the applicant, and eligibility qualifications.
