Programme Note:
"Porini, Porini, Porini!" is one of the pieces to come out of McIntosh's African concert tour and adventure in 2002. While she was in southern Kenya on a safari near the Amboseli National Park, she was fascinated by the rhythmic way in which her guide frequently called to Porini Camp on his radio-phone from their landrover. She used the rhythm and contour of his words to create the main theme of her bassoon piece. The piece is written in several connected sections, reflecting the variety of experiences on the safari – the vast savanna, Massai warriors chanting, Amboseli animals and birds, and the ritual dances.
