JANUARY 15, 2013 (TORONTO, ON) – Centrediscs, the award-winning label of the Canadian Music Centre, is thrilled to announce that its newly launched Atlantic Waves sub-label has recently received six (6) nominations for 2013 East Coast Music Awards. Five of the CMC’s Associate Composers are nominated for Classical Composition of the Year for their works on … Between the Shore and the Ships… the Grand-Pré Recordings

- Robert (Bob) Bauer - The Dykes of Acadie
- Jérôme Blais - Mouvance
- Derek Charke - …Between the Shore and the Ships…
- Scott Macmillan - La Victoire
- Steven Naylor – Aboiteau

Soprano Helen Pridmore and clarinetist Wesley Ferreira are nominated for Classical Recording of the Year for the same album, … Between the Shore and the Ships… the Grand-Pré Recordings.

… Between the Shore and the Ships… the Grand-Pré Recordings started as a Canadian Music Centre ‘New Music in New Places’ event. Eight Nova Scotian composers were selected to compose new works for soprano, Helen Pridmore, and clarinettist, Wesley Ferreira. The historic texts were gathered from the Grand-Pré National Historical Site of Canada located in Grand-Pré, Nova Scotia just outside Wolfville. These texts dealt with the deportation of the Acadians from the Acadian settlement which occurred between 1755 and 1762. The first performance of the new works was held at Grand-Pré National Historical Site of Canada as the opening concert for the “Shattering the Silence New Music Festival” in 2010.

The Canadian Music Centre would like to recognize the work of Shawn Bostick in championing the creation of this new category of “Classical Composition of the Year” which will be awarded for the first time at the East Coast Music Awards this year. The CMC is thrilled that all five nominees are Associate Composers of the CMC and their nominated compositions are all available on a recording from the Centrediscs label.

The 25th Annual East Coast Music Awards ceremony will take place at the Cunard Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Sunday, March 10, 2013.
