Duo Concertante to perform

February 6, 2013

"Duo Concertante, comprised of violinist Nancy Dahn and her musical partner Timothy Steeves, will perform a recital at St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg, February 9 at 7:30 p.m.

The evening’s entertainment will feature Robert Schumann’s “Sonata in A Minor, op. 105,” Beethoven’s “Kreuzer Sonata in A, op.47,” and R. Murray Schafer’s “Duo for Violin and Piano” which won the 2011 Juno Award for Classical Composition of the Year.

Duo Concertante, who have performed extensively across North America as well as in Europe and China, will make their debut appearance at Carnegie Hall in New York February 11.

The two performers are based at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and have conducted hundreds of classes and workshops.

That commitment has given rise to the development of the annual Tuckamore Music Festival, an event which brings young chamber music performers together with world-class artists and ensembles for an intensive two weeks of learning and performance.

The duo have produced five recordings to date, with the first three receiving nominations for Best Classical Recording at the East Coast Music Awards.

Their most recent effort, “Wild Bird,” is comprised of works specially written for the duo by Canadian composers Chan Ka Nin, Kati Agocs and Mr. Schafer.

The Lunenburg concert is presented by the St. Cecilia Concert Series and will be recorded by CBC Radio for future broadcast."
