Aaron Jensen

Aaron Jensen is an internationally-published composer, arranger and performer based out of Toronto, Canada. His creative offerings have been played on syndicated radio stations worldwide and have been widely performed across North and South America, Asia, Europe, and Australia. Recent works include commissions for the Grammy award-winning vocal ensemble, The Swingle Singers; for the Toronto-based Wind/Choral collective,Windago; and for Serenade! Choral Festival Washington DC as part of the Eric Daniel Helms New Works Program. In 2012, Jensen was awarded the grand prize by the International John Lennon Songwriting Competition in the jazz category, and the CARA award for Best Vocal Arrangement. In 2009, he completed his first orchestral commission which premiered in Florence, Italy and has since been performed in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Izmir, Turkey; and Strasbourg, France. Aaron was the acting Composer-in-Residence for the Toronto-based Univox Choir from 2007–2009. In 2010, Jensen co-founded the vocal ensemble Countermeasure, a group he continues to lead as musical director and conductor. He is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of SING! The Toronto Vocal Arts Festival.

Large scale works to date include: A Mari Usque Ad Mare (2013) an eclectic seventy-minute choral song-cycle which sets the poetry of celebrated Canadian writers from every province and territory, and which was premiered at Harbourfront Centre, Toronto; and O.E.D.: Dementia, Devotion and the Writing of the Oxford English Dictionary (2006) an original full-length musical, composed and orchestrated for Broadway North Theatre Co, and premiered at the E. A. Rawlinson Centre in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
