Canadian Music Centre’s Centrediscs Recording Label receives a 2013 JUNO Award Nomination in the Classical Composition of the Year category

FEBRUARY 19, 2013 (TORONTO, ON) – Centrediscs, the award-winning label of the Canadian Music Centre, is thrilled to announce that R. Murray Schafer has been nominated in the category of “Classical Composition of the Year” at the 2013 JUNO Awards for his piece “Trio for Violin, Viola and Cello” on the album My Life in Widening Circles. The Trio is performed by the Land’s End Chamber Ensemble.

R. Murray Schafer is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre. Samples of the tracks can be found at the JUNO website.

The Canadian Music Centre would also like to celebrate the compositions of Associate Composers Alexina Louie, Vivian Fung, and Denis Gougeon who were also nominated for 2013 JUNO Awards in the category of “Classical Composition of the Year.” Louie’s work Echoes of Time was released with Analekta, Fung’s work Violin Concerto through NAXOS, and Gougeon’s work Mutation was released through ATMA.

The JUNO Awards ceremony will take place at The Brandt Centre in Regina, SK, and will be broadcast nationally on CTV television on April 21st, at which time all winners will be announced.
