"OTTAWA — The National Arts Centre Orchestra will embark on one of the biggest tours it has ever undertaken next October when it heads to China.

The $1.9-million journey, which begins Oct. 4 and ends Oct. 20, will see the NACO travel to seven Chinese cities, perform eight major concerts and participate in more than 80 education and outreach activities, along with four video conference events that will link young musicians in Canada and China. The group travelling to China includes 80 people in all, including 70 musicians. The cities visited are Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Fuling, Tianjin, Beijing and Shanghai.

Among the tour highlights:

• The works of Canadian composers Alexina Louie, whose family is from China, and John Estacio will be featured.

• Amanda Forsyth, the principal cellist of the NAC Orchestra, will perform Bringing The Tiger Down From The Mountain II at a joint concert with the combined NACO and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta in Hong Kong..."
