Mathew holds a Masters Degree with Distinction from DePaul university in Chicago and is currently completing an Artists Diploma under the tutelage of Jim Smelser (2nd horn Chicago Symphony), Mathew was born in Calgary, Alberta. During his undergraduate degree he was introduced to contemporary music with an emphasis on Canadian composers. From that day on Mathew has been a passionate advocate for new music, he has performed Hildegard Westerkamp's Fantasie for Horns II, and many other works. Mathew has a keen interest in the combination of electronics and horn, as well as the implementation of visual media as well. In 2013 Mathew performed American Composer Israel Neuman's Turnarounds for amplified horn and tape, as well as giving the American premiere of Swedish composer Marcus Fjellstöm's Deanimator for horn and electronics. As well Mathew has begun to webcast new music concerts with collegues in Chicago. The first was a concert featuring music by Hildegard Westerkamp, Steven Snowden, Jacques Hetu, and Kajia Saariaho.

Outside his solo pursuits he the horn player of the Fullertone winds, and Ensemble Mockrep a Chicago based new music ensemble.
