Programme Note:
The original version of this work was written for faculty at the North Carolina School of the Arts and Wake Forest University. It was performed by them at a Composers' Symposium at Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. Subsequently at the request of, especially, the horn player, the piece was seriously revised (completed in 2000) and re-orchestrated to make the difficulty of the parts more even. Inspired by various wind pieces of Stravinsky, the work hopes to present the "quintessence" of the woodwind quintet medium.
