Programme Note:This short, intense piece requires the flutist to navigate, with consummate agility, through an extremely disjointed landscape. Initially consisting of short, intense fragments which explore a unified harmonic space, these isolated events begin to link up and become more consequential, creating phrases of increasing length. Paradoxically, however, the longer these phrases become, the faster the timbre, register and harmonic rhythm change, resulting not in greater continuity, but total atomisation, exploring the entire range of the instrument, as well as its articulational and timbral possibilities.
