“The title Changes refers to two elements of this work. The term ‘changes’ in jazz parlance means the chord structure of a piece, and in this composition Brady has used various voicings and harmonic ideas from the jazz world as a point of departure, particularly in the vibraphone writing. As well, for the percussionist, the piece involves rapid ‘changes’ between the vibraphone and marimba. The contrast between these two instruments really creates the overall form of the work.”
